Our Week in Costa Rica – A Family Vacation to Remember


From March 23 to March 29th, I spent an unforgettable week in Costa Rica with my husband, his parents, and his siblings. It was a full-on family trip, planned as a graduation present for my brother-in-law, and honestly, it turned out to be exactly what we all needed.




Why Costa Rica?

The destination was my brother-in-law’s choice—he wanted a spot where the whole family could go and enjoy something special together. Costa Rica offered adventure, beautiful scenery, and great fishing trips (which was a big part of his motivation). And hey, when someone says "tropical family getaway", how do you say no?




First Impressions

We flew in via two separate flights: Miami to Panama, then Panama to Costa Rica. I don’t remember the exact airport we landed in, but I’ll never forget the drive to Herradura—it took about an hour and change, winding through stunning mountain landscapes and a mix of homes and structures that were so different from what I’m used to. The scenery was unreal, and that first drive set the tone for the trip: peaceful, full of color, and just a little bit magical.




Where We Stayed

We stayed at Los Sueños in Herradura—a gated resort community that felt like a little piece of paradise. Our condo was gorgeous, and the entire property was filled with beautiful views, palm trees, and access to top-tier amenities. Only people staying in the resort could use them, and for that week, I truly felt rich. It was luxury, no doubt.




The Food Scene

We didn’t eat out too much, but when we did, two restaurants stood out: Coco and Kathia’s, both just outside the resort. Most nights we cooked in the condo, which made it feel more like home. Eating together at the end of the day added to that cozy, family-bonding vibe.

Adventures & Wildlife



We definitely had our share of adventure. We went zip-lining one day and horseback riding through the mountains on another—two experiences I’ll never forget. The views while riding were breathtaking, and zip-lining gave me that perfect mix of fear and adrenaline.




As for wildlife? We saw macaws flying around almost daily, and every now and then, we spotted monkeys swinging through the trees. It was wild… in the best way.




LOCAL LIFE & NEW FRIENDS

Local Life & New FriendsOutside the resort, the vibe was still super chill and welcoming. One of my favorite experiences was visiting a cigar shop across the street where my husband and I met the owner, Alexis. He was incredibly kind, and it turned out he was into the car scene just like us. It’s always cool to connect with people in unexpected places.




Favorite Moments

The happiest, most peaceful moments were the simplest ones—like just sitting by the pool with my family, soaking up the sun, laughing, and teasing each other. No rush, no schedule, just good vibes and good company.




There were only a couple days of rain, but nothing that lasted long or ruined any plans. It was actually kind of refreshing.




Final Thoughts

If I could relive one moment, it would be one of those afternoons at the pool, just feeling completely content and connected with everyone. The trip was eye-opening, beautiful, and grounding.




Would I go back? Absolutely. I’d recommend Costa Rica to anyone looking for relaxation, adventure, or just a fresh perspective. That said, by the end of the week, I was also really happy to be home.
